This item
consists of one, unbound and complete, as issued, 1949 Lincoln Data Book. Data Books were issued to the dealer and salesmen, not to owners of the vehicle. Very few, if any of these books remain in circulation. I spent four hours searching automotive literature sites and could not find a single example. It is paginated by lettered indexing, A - K. Section K is a 16-page index. The bundle is approximately 3/4-in. thick. Of special interest is the Accessories chapter...from radios to lap robes and luggage, and the complete line of Lincoln Car Care products. Every 1949 Lincoln model is shown, as is every noteworthy detail within each chapter category; body, engine, chassis, power train, etc. It breaks down the service policy and shows the factory overhaul manual. Some model pricing has been handwritten into appropriate fields by the saleman who owned this book. This is the salemans' bible. It is the factory course on how to sell this automobile, in the form of a handy pocket reference. Note that the pageblock has been hole-punched for a ring binder, as originally issued. I'm not convinced that these were issued to the dealers already bound. The evidence I've seen supports the probability that last year's pages were retired, and the new data was loaded into the binder when the new models, and their data came into the showroom. Most of my auto literature came from a guy who worked for a local Lincoln dealer from the 1920's to 1960's. He was the service manager and not a salesman. He was also a rabid collector of factory paper - all makes and models - anything on four-wheels and made in America. He had a dozen or so data books and none had the black binders. I assume, correctly or incorrectly, that the collated pages were bundled and issued separate from the binders, making the salesmen responsible for loading the pages into the binders. I picture the friends of the service manager, eager to satisfy his well-known appetite for paper. By the time he passed-away in 1976, he had accumulated 10,000-pounds of auto literature. I found the collection in the early 1990's. It occupied the entire second floor of a Victorian carriage house. Unfortunately, only 10-percent of the paper survived ten years of leaking roof. This book's scarcity and terrific condition earns it a firm price. There are far more 1949 Lincolns still being driven, than there are data books to go around. More photos below.

After ten years and over 8000 listings on eBay I think of my mailing to be faster than some, but slower than average. I may be a little slow but I'm still sane. And, you will be too when your item arrives undamaged. I ask that you afford me an extra degree of your patience.
If you send me an email and I don't reply, don't take it personal. I ignore no one, but stuff happens.
Thanks for looking! Good luck! Jane
