Description
I just purchased this antique Sunbonnet Babies footed berry set from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The set is attributed to Royal Bayreuth, the famed Bavarian porcelain works located in Tettau, Germany. The 5-piece set consists of (1) master berry and (4) individual berry bowls. The large bowl features Bayreuth's "Wash Day" scene, the small bowls all have "Mending Day". The transfer decors are surrounded by an airbrushed ground which shades from deep orange, to pale blue and olive green. The large bowl measures 8 ¼" wide and 2 ½" high, the smaller bowls 6" wide and 2" high. The footed backs are covered in the same olive green as the face with some orange highlights on the feet (with this design there are no RB blue marks). All of the bowls are in very good no chips / flakes / hairlines. The finish on all is very good with a tiny 3/16" scratch line on the back of one, some faint fine crazing on the large bowl and a few tiny finish flakes to the green on the large bowl. The large bowl has some faint mottling to background on the front (production ? or water issue?) which is pictured. The gold on all is very good with only some scattered trace wear. This very hard to find Sunbonnet Babies set would make a fine addition to any Royal Bayreuth porcelain collection.
