Vintage Challenger 8” #5608 Monkey Wrench (Pipe Wrench)
This is a Normal-Duty Stillson-Pattern 8” #5608 expandable pipe wrench that I’ve reconditioned. All parts are original. I cleaned, serviced and painted the wrench. Wrench is designed to service a maximum pipe size of ¾”. Made with a forged and heat treated special steel handle of panel I-beam.
Brief History:
Penens Tool would produce tools under the Fleet and Challenger brand names. In 1947 Penens registered a trademark for "Fleet Quality Tools" and produced Fleet branded tools for a number of years. In addition to the Fleet brand, Penens also produced tools for the "Challenger" brand. Challenger was a Division of Pendleton Tool Industries. Pendleton Tool was the parent company of Plomb Tool, Penens, P&C, and other subsidiaries.
During this period the name brand “challenger” was in forged raised letters, all in lowercase script.
